Arbor Ridge School was established in 1989 and is located in the Arbor Ridge development. The school is located toward the northeast side of Orange County near the Econlockhatchee River. Our students come from a variety of social and economic backgrounds. We recognize that each child has different needs, interests, and abilities. We strive to create an environment in which the whole child will grow emotionally, physically, intellectually, and socially. This is best achieved through an integrated curriculum involving physical education, music, art, language, and technology, with a focus on literacy. Through a creative and stimulating curriculum, children are exposed to a variety of experiences to help them develop into responsible citizens with a sense of concern for others.
Arbor Ridge School works in harmony with parents and the local community. We have had 100 percent membership in the PTA each year. Local residents have donated thousands of volunteer hours through the ADDitions program. The SAC (School Advisory Council) which is made up of parents, staff and community members meets monthly to discuss the needs of our school and to plan appropriate goals for the school improvement plan. Additional support is provided by an extensive network of business partnerships through the Partners in Education program. Cooperative efforts such as these demonstrate the commitment of the school and community in providing only the best education for the children we serve.
Commitment to excellence is exemplified by our visionary principal, outstanding staff and parents. We are a Florida Five Star School, a Florida Red Carpet School, a National Blue Ribbon School nominee, and a Professional Development School in collaboration with the University of Central Florida. During the 1998-1999 school year, Arbor Ridge began a magnet program which added grades 6 to 8 over a three year period to our student body. In addition to the magnet program, we have been chosen to be the state model for the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program.
With the combined efforts of our dedicated school staff, PTA, School Advisory Council, ADDitions Volunteer Program, each child is encouraged to become a self-motivated, contributing member of our society. Our school and community work together, promoting a sense of values and belonging, helping us to accomplish our mission of being one of Florida's best schools.
